Exams

Exams + Allah (SWT) = Hope

Well, maybe you’ve just finished exams or are about to start, but have you ever noticed how philosophical we become around exam time?  Some say our health’s the most important, others  say they don’t care how they perform only that they get it over and done with, others study non-stop and still don’t perform as well as they’d hoped – and of course, there’s always the one who does well come hell or high-water. But what do all these different results have in common? This is the culmination of that simple word – FATE or QADER.

Yes, when you were floating around in your mother’s womb Allah (SWT) preordained our lives for us without having ever been born! So that doesn’t leave must choice for us right, if we’re meant to fail we’ll fail right? NO!

Just as there’s qader, there’s freewill and Allah (SWT) gives everyone as much as their efforts. It is true to fail to prepare, is to prepare to fail. If you study just before the exam and someone else studies at the start of the year and they do better, then that is self-explanatory.

But have any of you ever put in a real effort and still not performed, it doesn’t make sense does it? Well, can I tell you that every time you think something is the “end of the world” could actually be the best thing that ever happened to you?

“But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah Knows, while you know not.” – Al-Baqarah 2:216

So, look the best way to approach exams is to say this duaa before studying and the exam itself,

“Allahumma infa’nii bimaa ‘allamtanii wa’allimnii maa yanfa’uunii. Allahumma inii as’aluka fahmal-nabiyyen wa hifzal mursaleen al-muqarrabeen. Allahumma ijal leesanee ‘aiman bi dhikrika wa qalbi bi khashyatika. Innaka ‘ala ma-tasha’u qadeer wa anta hasbun-allahu wa na’mal wakeel.”

“Oh Allah! Make useful for me what you have taught me and teach me knowledge that will be useful to me. Oh Allah! I ask you for the understanding of the prophets and the memory of the messengers, and those nearest to you. Oh Allah! Make my tongue full of your remembrance and my heart with consciousness of you. Oh Allah! You do whatever you wish, and you are my availer and protector and best of aid.”
